Beautifulness
Being in Action
The Taekwondo which moves with the harmony of a point, a straight line and a circle is itself an art. What is art? The activity of pursuing a beauty with its result are called the art. Then what is beauty?
Ultimately beauty comes form the life and is conceived by a life, so beauty is nothing but a life's perceiving itself by way of another thing. It consists in the mutual response between an intentional subject and its continuous proceeding to something, yet neither in its objective nor simply in the perception. Therefore, when you say something is beautiful the beauty in its essence is not in the thing but in your action. The beauty of Taekwondo in its essence is not in its figure itself but in your doing Taekwondo yourself. Same is in dance, too.
Since beauty is such like that the beauty of an artwork, if it were, lies not in the very artwork but your action of seeing it when you see the beautiful artwork and the beauty of a music also lies in the action of listening to it when you hear a good music. The art is not something that exists itself but something that is pursued, and it is not an object but an activity.
Because beauty is essentially related to action, the matter of beauty is the matter of value. This beauty is an indicator of action, which is in action, guiding actions to a right direction, so every true beauty leads to moral virtue. There is no right way that is too hard to follow. This is why they say, don't go if it is not a way. Therefore, the Taekwondo as a motion is wholly close to the essence of beauty and its beauty is not restricted by space, time nor visual and auditory senses yet expended all over the life.
The beauty of Taekwondo is composed of three; the harmony with nature, the clearness and the profundity in that simplicity and complexity are same. Lacking even one of these three the Taekwondo can neither be beautiful nor work as Taekwondo. And the complete performance of any of them will be accompanied with anothers all. Thus, a skilled motion of Taekwondo is beautiful and this beauty is not heard or seen by a particular sense but felt by the mind. Therefore, it is impossible to hide completely the true ability of Taekwondo from the eyes of the enlightened man.
In this manner a good motion a man can perform is always a good dance when seen from the point of aesthetical view and a good sport when seen from the viewpoint of excitement, and also a good martial skill when seen from the functional viewpoint of controling over the opponent. Summing up all these views it is a good Taekwondo.
