<<Division 6. How to Weapon>>

 Chapter 43.

Controling Weapon with Mind

If a weapon lived with its own breath anywhere, both inside and outside of your body like above, what would be the difference between the weapon and your hand or foot and between it and yourself? This weapon is already a part of Taekwondo man's body. It is natural principle that every part a bod moves together when another part moves, so you should follow his principle in using a weapon too. Thus, you should use a weapon not with your hands but with your body when you handle it. This means, you should turn your body aside the way of the weapon and the weapon finds its proper place according to the movement of your body. It makes no difference at all whether your body moves more than the weapon or vice versa, for such a superficial difference of a motion is not important in TAEKWONDO. Given the perfect harmony of a weapon and your body it is neither the hand nor the body but the mind itself that truly moves the weapon, and the ultimate reality of Taekwondo is nothing but the mind.

The position of the weapon which is under the control of your mind, it ought to be between you and your opponent, and it can protect you attacking him at once all the way between you and him. This between does not only mean the spatial gap between you and him. That your weapon exsits all the way wherever you need it whenever necessary in boundless changes so that it moves or changes all the way at the best place to protect you attacking your opponent, this is the full meaning of that the weapon exists between you and him. A Taekwondo man finds this way with his skilled mind.

Like this every weapon, regardless of a hand and a foot or a sword and a spear, moves under the control of one mind, and although it has various distinctive figures it has only one essence. Thus, an enlightened Taekwondo man handles all kinds of weapons with no difficulty just as <Do> controles everything with no difficulty. Given a sword in your hand Taekwondo will be a good skill of the sword if you regard it just as an extension of your hand or you foot, and given a stick Taekwondo will be a perfect skill of using a stick only if you take it as a part of your body. This is why we call it TAEKWONDO with the name of <Do>. If there is something that cannot include the best skills of using a sword or using a stick in its oneness it cannot be the perfect TAEKWONDO. <Do> penetrates everything to its oneness.
