Winning with Golden Mean
When a Taekwondo man has his opponent in conflict against the world and he is harmonized in it, his will moves the opponent and his body moves the world. Thus, when he punched or kicked the opponent the body of the Taekwondo man, as a part of the world, controles his opponent. How is it possible that a Taekwondo man is harmonized in the antagonistic relationship between the opponent's body and Taekwondo man's weapon? It is possible because it depends on the same principle that, when you beat a drum, in spite of the strikes of the drum and the drumstick, the whole of both makes harmonized sound.
The characteristics of all the perfect and skilled motions of Taekwon and of its attacks and defences are not in its infinite strongness and sharpness but in its ability to controle over the opponent properly and to rearrange everything to its appropriate position. Also can this be understood in relations to the way of Sky inside and outside Taekwondo, and its another name is "the golden mean". Although beating a drum is merely having a drumstick strike a drum, because this also follows the principle that determines a good motion of making harmonious use of power with everything proper, it will be hard to beat it out of this principle and difficult to make good sound in spite of eager movements. How much more is it the case of Taekwondo's motion which should control over the opponent of changeful motion. If I attack with excessive force I may destroy myself as well, and if I fail to convert my opponent's force into mine we both will tremble with shock.
Because of these reasons everybody that does Taekwondo endeavors to controle himself earlier than to controle anothers, endeavors to restrain himself earlier than to controle over anothers, and makes efforts to overcome himself earlier than to overcome anothers. Since Taekwon's conception of values is to take a positive view of life you should not complain that the world does not help you but should you change yourself for the world and for your success, without which no one can get the ultimate TAEKWONDO. On the way of self-perfection there is the <Do> of the golden mean, which may not show itself to be seen easily, thus the Taekwondo man who follows it will never be controled over even when he cannot beat his opponent down. It is in the coexistence of you and your opponent that you can find the eternal victory of Taekwondo as unseen.
