<<Division 5. Attack and Defence>>

 Chapter 34.

Hitting Opponent with Whole of Myself

Because the attack of Taekwondo begins only with moving one's mind, Taekwondo man, who follows the way of Sky with everything kept in its proper place, should hit the opponent with the whole of himself in his attack. Therefore, he moves and organizes all parts of his body even in a slight motion.

Even though the tip of a whip moves softly and slightly it can thrust a critical pain into man's bone and tear man's skin not because only it moves but because the whole of the long whip swings at a time, making out the slight motion of its tip. In spite of the same powers of beating, the sound of a bigger drum is more magnificent and goes farther away than the smallers because the wide empty space in it amplifies its vibration to powerful sound. Without very deliberate considerations that utter a word, no advice can move somebody, and this is why a word of a Saint is different from that of a common man. Following these principles Taekwondo's attack should hit the enemy with whole body, and not with only hands or feet. And it should be performed with attacking intention and its tide, and not with only the power of muscles and bones.

Accordingly, the Taekwondo man, who attacks in a right way, hits the opponent as a part of the earth if he were standing on the earth, and hits the opponent as a part of the sky if he were in touch with the empty space. When the Taekwondo man hits his opponent as a part of the earth his power amounts to that of the earth's crash against his opponent, and when he hits the opponent as a part of the sky the power amounts to that of all changes of the universe concentrated on a point. Therefore, its is possible that you surpass your opponent even if you are a small man while your opponent is a giant guy.

And when you attack the opponent you should thrust the opponent with your killing spirit at first, catch him with your staring down the next, and then control him with your motion. The world is the mind. No matter how changeful the opponent were he cannot change as much as a mind, and no matter how speedy he were he cannot escape from the reach of your sight. Therefoe, there is none over whom you cannot gain supremacy when you reconciled intention, sight and movement with one another. This is why you can gain supremacy overy anyone with Taekwondo no matter how speedy he may be.

In Taekwondo's attack of hitting the opponent when in touch with the earth, the attacker just mediates the power of the earth in the blow, when he stands firmly on the ground and erases himself so that he moves with the same weight of the whole earth to strike a blow. The earth is alive. Therefore, every finest part helps one another in delicate ways of harmonized vitality in that motion.

In Taekwondo's attack of hitting the opponentin touch with the empty space the attacker exists just as concentrating the whole change of the universe on a point and as the man who controls it, when he completes his balance like the essence of cosmic change and pictures himself so that he embodies his will in every change and hits the opponent with all of them. The universe is alive with freedom. Therefore, every part of the whole body is to be open out of all restrictions and left free at the very time.

Here I'm not different from what I'm not. This motion is smooth-mannered with no angle like a circle at which this part and that part constitute a whole on one hand, and it is so quick and sudden that it is unseen and momentary since it is like a point which is empty where its being is same as not being on the other hand.

For all of them Taekwondo man should be able to make all nerves strained over his body on a sudden with the mind of Mu-Nyom-Mu-Sang(freedom from all of ideas and thoughts,), remaining fully relaxed always. Only this time the opponent is in conflict with the world and you harmonize yourself with the whole of both, because you are harmonized in the conflictive relation with no conflict.

This Taekwondo man should have the strong body, the muscles of which are more tought than that of a cow, and once he made a pose it should be so firm as it were made of stone and his sudden motion should be more quick than a jumping spring. Not the crispness of rotten wood but only the hardness of a stone can mediate the effective conflict between the earth and the opponent, and not the weak thin thread but only the tought leather strap can be used in swinging a heavy iron lump.

All of these explains what it is to hit an opponent with everything of a man when he hits the opponent in Taekwondo, and you can know that a slight little motion needs to include every motion of the whole body and also that your motion is much with its abundant power because you move your whole body when you hit. but it is slight and quick because the a whole motion is distibuted to and shared by each part of the body. In addition to that, since every part moves together at a time in a reconciliation it is natural and invisible. Therfore, the opponent cannot defend it.
