Controling
Every Motion with Rhythm
In order to move together with your opponent finding
the right way of Taekwondo you should control yourself according to
the rhythm of motion and have your will ride the change. The origin
of everything is the driving force that generates all changes of everything,
which has been called
What is and what not is? The what is and is not is
the very distinctiveness, and since there is no distinctiveness there
can be
The rhythm, which is immanent in change, generates Yin
and Yang through
When you are to find this sort of change in Taekwondo the best example would be that in distance. Distance is one of the most important factors and it is also most objective one because the unity of Sky and Earth does not include Man. The distance in Taekwondo changes continuously and it is alive. Everything that changes and, everything that lives has its rhythm in itself, so when you and your opponent face and move in a particular distance two rhythms also meet each other making one controlled in that distance. This control is the true rhythm of TAEKWONDO. It can be in you or out of you.
The relation of distance and rhythm, it is simple and each of the both is included in the other. Thus it is one and an easy thing for Taekwondo man. To put you in a proper distance means to be able to move with a proper rhythm. Everything ideal is essentially simple, in which difficulty and easiness are same. Distance differs from rhythm delicately on it. This sort of rhythm can never be seen but rather can be found when you raise the vitality in yourself up and harmonize its rhythm with the world. Therefore you cannot find the distance of Taekwondo with your eyes yet you should find it with your mind. And you should do Taekwondo not with only your mind but with your whole.
What is distance for? The distance in Taekwondo is that of the attack and defense, that for the control over the opponent and the protection of yourself. This attack and defense constitutes the whole meaning of Taekwondo's motion, which realizes itself in distance on one hand and shows itself in poses on the other hand. Here, tide and balance when united makes pose.
Why do we discuss pose? For a pose is visible so easy to correct in the course of training. The flowing rhythm turns to the equipped rhythm in pose. That is, when you make your pose its figure determines the width of rhythm possible for you. Owing to this reason, the opponent's pose tells you what his motion can be like. To say differently, you can see all possible motions in his pose. A good pose should not be merely a stable one but rather it itself should be one that oppresses him, which relies on the same reason. It must not be 'for the control over' him but 'controlling' him.
In this manner, the motion and the standstill are not
different in Taekwondo, which has the same meaning as Saek Jeuk Si Gong
and Gong Jeuk Si Saek(

) the Buddhism
teaches us. You know that everything visible is empty because you see
it not with your eyes but with your mind. In the same manner, you can
see the motion hidden in your opponent's pose when you look into his
mind over those temptation of his visible figures. Rhythm flows along
the changes and motions. The rhythm that manages all motions is extended
even to the calm pose of Taekwondo like these.
